TFD Training offers our business clients a variety of customised on-road courses across the UK and Ireland, which are designed to improve the driving skills so that safety of your employees who drive for work are increased.
Driver Training Offered:
-
General coaching and assessment – this is designed for every employee of all ages and experience whether they drive for work or just commute to the office. Their safety is paramount as they are the foundation of your business so all would possibly benefit from advanced or defensive driver training.
-
New Drivers To the Business – Many companies include this as part of the recruiting process or as a new driver induction process as some may have never driven your types of vehicle especially the younger drivers.
-
Younger Drivers – Many fleet insurers do not permit the young driver to drive commercial vehicles unless they have taken some further driver training in the form of an advanced or defensive driving workshop.
-
Post Incident – Drivers often take an advanced or defensive workshop if they have been involved in one or more incidents, to reduce future risk or as part of the disciplinary process.
-
New Vehicle Training – As technology progresses with vehicle performance, safety equipment is also changing at a fast rate and it is important to introduce your drivers to this so that they have the correct skills to stay safe.
Workshop Key Facts:
Workshops are normally a 3.5 hour or 7 hour sessions with the 7 hour having the option to be split between two drivers, (one in the morning and one in the afternoon), making the training more cost effective.
-
We provide our training across the UK and Ireland.
-
Workshops usually begin and end at your company’s premises.
-
All the trainers are qualified in their areas of expertise.
-
We assess all the drivers in 10 key areas rating their performance as Advanced, Competent, Improvement Required and Unsafe Practice. This is recorded on a reporting sheet allowing you to evaluate the drivers progress during the session and overall skill level.
Benefits of Advanced Driver Training:
Advanced driving is a safe, methodical and leaves nothing to chance method of driving. Advanced drivers are more observant, with better anticipation skills to react to changes in the surrounding conditions. This enables them to plan their driving, to deal with any circumstances by using the ‘System of Car Control’ which gives a systematic way to deal with all hazards.
The reasons to complete advanced driver training is provided to help drivers to:
-
Improve the reputation of your business, especially if you have branded vehicles.
-
Improve confidence and ability therefore increasing the safety in your fleet.
-
Help the driver who may have issues with driving by helping them to:
-
analyse and anticipate the actions of others;
-
develop a positive attitude towards driving;
-
research has found that advanced drivers are 20% less likely to be involved in a collision;
-
are less likely to have penalty points; and
-
more likely to remain collision free.
Workshop Format:
The workshops are usually road–based and take place in the driver’s own vehicle meeting at an agreed location. The workshop is bespoke to the drivers requirements but follows a set format covering:
Introduction:
Driving licence, eyesight, vehicle checks and why training for driving for work.
Initial Drive:
This is to allow the trainer to assess the driver’s level of experience and skill by requesting the driver to drive the way they usually do for about 20 minutes. There is no input from the trainer, apart from a few questions to establish the reason for their actions and a knowledge check of the Highway Code. A debrief is then given and a number of training objectives agreed.
Coaching:
The coaching is based around the training objectives agreed and any other areas the driver wishes to cover as the session progresses. The training is completed in an interactive and enjoyable way with continuous two way feedback and it will take place on a range of road types and environments.
Debrief:
When the workshop is completed the trainer will provide feedback of the session encouraging the driver to give their opinions and agree a number of areas where they will continue to work on when they are driving in the future. The trainer at this time will mark the driver in the ten key areas explaining the reasons for the grade and how improvements could be made.
At the end of the workshop we provide a risk assessment which will be High, Medium, Medium Low or Low with a written report outlining any recommendations. This report will be forwarded to the companies representative around three days after the workshop.
