TFD Training has an In-house Driving Assessor course which trains select members of your team to be in-house driving assessors for your company or business.

The benefits of having in-house assessors means your overall fleet costs may be reduced. You are assured that your drivers are of the correct standard, meaning your drivers are adequately risk assessed and driving in a professional manner when they represent your business.

There might be an insurance requirement, but they may reduce your insurance cost as you are fulfilling some of your occupational road risk obligations.

What is an In-house Assessor?

An in-house driving assessor is someone who evaluates the quality of driving within your organisation by ensuring that company policies are adhered to. They can complete driver assessments for various reasons:

  • Recruitment of new drivers (part of the application process).

  • Driver inductions.

  • Yearly drivers safety checks.

  • Assessment of a driver's ability to drive after a complaint or concern about the individuals driving whether internal or external.

TFD Training would recommend you bring in a fully trained instructor for post road traffic collision assessments and post or pre motoring offences as an internal driving assessor can only assess the drivers ability. They are not allowed by law to coach or train drivers unless they are qualified registered instructors.

If you have only one or more than one assessor they ensure that the assessments are conducted fairly, consistently, and according to established standards. Their role is vital for maintaining the validity and reliability of assessments for your business.

Here is a more detailed look at the role of an internal assessor:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitoring Assessment Practices: Internal assessors observe assessors in action, providing feedback and guidance on how to improve their practices.

  • Ensuring Standards: They verify that assessments are aligned with organisational standards and the requirements of awarding bodies.

  • Promoting Best Practices: Internal assessors identify and share best practices for assessment, helping to create a culture of continuous improvement.

  • Verifying Assessment Decisions:  They may also be responsible for verifying the decisions of assessors, ensuring that they are accurate and fair.

  • Supporting Assessor Development: Internal assessors may be involved in training and development programmes for assessors, helping them to improve their skills and knowledge.

Importance of the Role:

  • Ensuring Quality: Internal assessors play a crucial role in maintaining the quality and integrity of assessments within an organisation.

  • Supporting Learners:  By ensuring that assessments are fair and reliable, internal assessors help learners to achieve their full potential.

  • Maintaining Compliance: They help organisations to meet the requirements of awarding bodies and other regulatory bodies.

Difference between Assessor and Internal Assessor:

While both roles are related to assessment, they have distinct responsibilities. Assessors are responsible for directly evaluating learners, while internal assessors focus on monitoring and improving the overall assessment process.
